Saying Goodbye

As everybody knows, we recently celebrated New Years.

I'm not sure how all of you brought in the New Year, but I spent it with some of my closest friends. Over the past few days, it occurred to me that a lot of people wanted to completely get rid of things from 2014.

I would be lying if I said that I didn't too, but in all honesty, I didn't say goodbye to everything. I said goodbye to all of the bad things that happened over the year. I had good friends pass away, I had someone who was like a second father pass away, and the love of my life passed away. I've been left broken hearted by the loss of people I love, but I was also delighted when I realized how loved that I am as a person.

Now that we're in the New Year, I just want to remind everyone not to completely say goodbye to the year 2014. You lived through it, it made you stronger. Don't say goodbye, just say goodbye to the ones that broke your heart. Say goodbye to the ones that did you wrong. Say goodbye to all of those bad memories that you remember from 2014. Don't say goodbye to your friends, your family, and the good memories that were made over the year. Sure, bad things happen, but I know that there were good things that happened to you as well!

Here's a challenge! Comment with at least ONE good memory that you have from 2014.

My favorite memory was from September. It was the weekend before I lost my soul mate. I was with a few of my sisters in Denver at a Haunted House. If you know me personally, you'd know that I am absolutely terrified of haunted houses, but I went in. I conquered a fear of mine and went to multiple haunted houses throughout the month. This was such a good memory for me because I was surrounded by the people I love while doing something I fear (which ended up turning into something that made me laugh, rather than scream).

Keep in mind those positive memories and create more positive, happy memories in 2015!

Happy New Year, loves!

The Odd Girl Out

Every girl has their big, right? That's what I thought too until I didn't...

I received my bid for my chapter in Spring 2012 and a week after receiving my bid, I found out who my big was. We were perfect for one another but sadly, this story didn't have a storybook ending.

When a girl first receives her big, it should be one of the best days of her life! Mine was! At first, my big and I did everything together! We would spend countless hours with one another talking about anything and everything in the world. Within eighteen months, that all went south. Sadly, what I thought was going to be the best relationship of my life suddenly turned poisonous.

It's been a year since the disaffiliation of my former big and it's been somewhat difficult on me. To say that I miss having a role model and mentor is an understatement. I was never the girl who had her big as her biggest fan and that's what truly upsets me.

Every time we get a new member class and bigs reveal themselves to their little, I want to stress the importance of the big/little relationship.

For most people, it's far too late to decide if they want a little but if you do COB (continuous open bidding) then you may find yourself with the option to take a little or not.

If you're going to take a little, take the time to think about the responsibility that comes with the relationship that you're wanting to form. Are you prepared to take on a little? Are you ready to become a role model and help them succeed within your chapter? Are you ready to help a little with their problems both inside and out of your chapter?

If you said no to any of these questions then by all means, please don't take one if you aren't ready. If you are ready, then good luck to you!

Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

I've found myself in a hole lately. I'm still dealing with the loss of my little sister, and I've had some other personal obstacles which have all pressured me down into a slump. I have searched for hope and sunshine in the dark days, but it's not always easy to find it.

Something that has always made me happy in my sorority, are the candlelights. A candlelight happens when a sister becomes engaged and it's a special moment of connection when your whole sorority feels a sense of true bonding and excitement. You can truly feel the happiness and the freshness of a new chapter in your sister's life. I haven't experience many in my time as an active, but that makes them even more special. And that happiness that they bring is why I love them so much.

I've spent weeks searching for a happy moment like that to see, something to just give me a little hope for the day and today I found this. No it's not a sorority girl, it's not a video of a candlelight, but it's that same feeling and the same joy. The bonds Tiffany and her friends share even after they have parted from college (just like you and your sisters will) are so strong and the video is so touching and happy. So take 10 minutes today, watch, enjoy, and have a little ounce of sunshine. I promise you'll love it.
