Sorority Girl =Working girl: How Your Chapter Can Help You Prepare For The Working World

Joining a sorority can easily top the list as one of the greatest decisions a woman can make during college. While stereotypes paint the experience as nothing more than a “good time”, the reality is that joining a sorority helps prepare and mold you for the real world.

From the inside looking in, you as a sorority woman, realize that being “Greek” is so much more responsibility. From planning events, to being on the executive board, to being a big,  Greek life teaches you the three most important things you will need as you enter the rest of your life.  Confidence, Knowledge, and Experience.

Need more proof?

When you are on a job interview and your potential employer asks if you will be able to a manager of other employees, you know you can because you were on your chapter’s e-board.

Or what if your boss asks you to have 20 tasks due by Monday, you can handle it because you had to balance so much being a student and a member of Greek Life.

Let's sayyou want to plan a fundraiser to raise money for an important cause, you know exactly what to do because you had to plan events for your chapter once a month.

People say that college provides you the foundation for the rest of your life, if that is true, being Greek provides you with a second floor. It gives you more than foundation, it give you another level.

As someone who has been working in my field since I left college, I can honestly say that I left Pace University a better student, leader, and person after joining Phi Sigma Sigma on my campus. I left the sheltered halls of that campus ready and eager to follow my dreams, make a difference, and change the world. The strength and confidence to pursue my passions were developed from being Greek.  More importantly,  my experience is that I am not the only one.

So as you prepare to go into the new semester, remember to be as active as you can in your chapter, because being in sorority will open many doors for you, teach you many lessons, and will give you everything you need post graduation.

How to Break Winter Vacation Boredom?

What do you do on your winter break? Especially if most of your friends have jobs, babysit, doing homework, or just always busy. This first week I have been home and I am slowly starting to lose my mind while my friends are finishing up school. Needless to say being the first one back to my hometown is a blessing and a curse.
There are somethings I have decided this break I am going to try and work on, instead of sitting in front of a television or computer screen every free moment I have from being free from work or not being with friends. There are so many things that you could do to benefit yourself, and even others!
  1.  Organize! Clean through everything you own. Get rid or donate the things that you don't want. You can even make a little cash if you go to stores like Plato's Closet.
  2. Read a good book. There are so many books, journeys, and adventures out there that can absorb you into their world. You can fall head over heals in love with a story within a book.
  3. Hangout with family. I know whenever I get a chance I spend time with my Nana. She is an amazing, strong, and patient woman who I can't get enough time to spend with her. I want to learn everything about her before I lose the chance to. Who knows, you may even have found a best friend like I did.
  4. Prepare. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GRADUATING! Start job hunting, start looking for potential. Find out where you may be in a years time. Without the research or time to do the research will you really know? I know this break I am taking the time to fill out teaching applications.
  5. Workout! Who needs New Years to start the "healthy living" spree? Start today and work on your fitness and being a better you. If you don't know how to use the weights or you always wanted to lift ask someone for help. What is the worst they are going to say? No? That is nothing to be afraid of.
Work hard this break, to benefit yourself. It is ok to be a little selfish every now and then. Just make sure you aren't sitting behind your computer 24/7 or a television. Get out there and do.

XOXO
