Preparing for Senior Year

To say I'm scared of senior year is an understatement. College has come and gone in the blink of an eye and although I most likely will not be graduating on time due to dreams I want to pursue while still a college student, it's getting more real as time goes on. I recently picked my schedule for next semester, unfortunately I got stuck with an 8:30 (the ones I try to avoid) and got jipped out of a class that fulfills the language requirement which I still haven't completed.

I've been freaking out about the logistics of where I'll be living next year, which will be the campus apartments, and having to rely mostly on the shuttle system and stressing me out. I do not trust the shuttle system at my school for several reasons. 1, The drivers are rude as hell, they never come on time 2, they never update the shuttle app on the phone to tell you when they're arriving and 3, there are so many people and students who rely on the shuttles when there's not enough of them on duty. Waiting for a shuttle not only to get to class; meaning I'm going to have to wake up extra early to get there on time, but the fact that catching one to get back the apartments is like the anchovy scene from the first season of Spongebob. If you don't know what this is I will enlighten you below:

Aside from worrying about getting to and from class, I will be very excited to start being able to have my own kitchen and not have to get a meal plan that consists of the school's laxative laced food. (I learned this today actually that food at most schools is laced with laxatives to stop students from getting food poisoning and then suing the school; shoutout to my sorority sister for telling me this tidbit of day-brightening info haha), oh yeah did I mention it's illegal? Yea I had no idea this was a thing.

(Me as spongebob making my way to the shuttle hahaha)

I'm looking forward to senior year and reapplying for the Disney College program, something I have had my heart set on since I graduated high school, and I will be reapplying again and hopefully won't mess up any of the interviewing process and get to work in the happiest place on earth. I'm also excited to see what more exciting things my sorority will have to offer me, and having the thought in the back of my mind that I'll one day be leaving my sorority and graduating scares the absolute crap out of me. I wish I joined sooner because it has made my college career what it is.

For now, transitioning into Senior year is going to be a big, exciting, and scary step, but I'm excited to see where my future college career takes me. I will keep you all updated on new and exciting things happening!

Utilizing Etsy; Why This Website is God Sent for Sorority Girls

Etsy, ah the site of all sites to find the coolest greek wear and random items to fit any one of your many needs and desires. When I first discovered etsy, back in high school, the only thing I really ever searched for was jewelry. But etsy has expanded so much and has been an amazing blessing for big sorority sisters alike. When I crossed into my sorority I took a chance and started searching Phi Sigma Sigma or greek clothing, items, jewelry etc. just to see what I would find. I wasn't expecting anything of it, I figured there would be really weird items carved out of wood and knick knacks like that and opposite of what I expected happened; etsy is my holy grail. The amount of sorority and greek letter items they have available on their site is amazing; I couldn't tell (nor do I want to tell you lol) how much money I've spent on greek apparel through etsy.

For sorority girls, I'm sure you've heard of somethinggreek.com I love their site, they make awesome stuff but their patterns were getting outdated and boring to me, I wanted something new and more up to date and etsy had exactly what I was looking for. Everything from vera bradley prints, to lilly prints, to disney prints, everything I could have ever asked for an more. I've purchased countless shirts, hats, sweatshirts, quarter zips, etc. and I've never been disappointed with anything I've bought off of etsy.

I would even recommend finding items that are monogrammed which I have been obsessed with and then once you receive them you can bring them to your local store where you usually get letters made and they can embroider and put letters on it on top of the fact that it already has your monogram. (I did this with my big!)

Here are some of my favorite stores:
  • UniversityShop
  • thesororityspot
  • LPEdesigns
  • TheGreekInkPress
  • TheTurnipSeed
  • GreekLetters13

9 Things You Miss Most When You're Away From Your Sorority

Whenever I go on vacation, it is so extremely depressing to be away from your sorority [I seriously mean this, even though going away on vacation is glorious.] While away, it's hard not to think about all the things you're missing out on especially if no one in your sorority is away with you. Here are the top 9 things that almost all sorority girls miss while they're away on vay-k.

1. Your Little[s]
-Bring on the countless, sappy texts back and forth to one another about how much you miss them and how you wish they were here [just pull more at our heartstrings why don't ya?]

2. Your Big
-No one gets you quite like your big, and when she's not around to keep you in check or to be the first person to come pick you up in your time of dire need, you feel a huge part of you missing.

3. Venting Sessions
-Venting sessions rarely occur in family settings while on vacation, and missing that quality girl time with your closest sisters leaves you without your daily fill of 4-1-1 gossip.

4. Meetings
-Maybe meetings aren't the most fun things to attend in a sorority, but they do keep you up to date on the latest material and events that are coming up and missing one really [for lack of a better term] sucks when you're out of the loop and struggling to read through your chapter minutes to catch up.

5. Going Out
-Being able to let loose and have a great time with the ones who get you the most is disheartening. I love going out with my closest sisters and having a great time; who else is going to dance at parties and bars with you? I can answer that for you- not many, and definitely not your family.

6. New Member Events
-These are prime times to hang out and get to know the associating members of your chapter in different settings, and missing out on new member events stinks, particularly if they're the super fun ones that you enjoyed so much during previous processes or your own.

7. Wearing Letters
-Depending on where you go on vacation it may be way too hot for that cute spirit jersey or adorable pair of long sleeve letters, so having to take a break from wearing letters is extremely difficult. [I try to wear a hat with letters on it because I start to have withdrawal from my beautiful twill babies; consult picture above].

8. Hanging out and Relaxing with Sisters
-Maybe you're relaxing on vacation, but it's always better when there's sisters there to keep you company. How much better would catching rays be with your sisters by your side? A lot.

9. Borrowing Clothes
-Without your sisters there, who are you going to borrow cute clothes from? Unfortunately you can't bring your sisters' wardrobes on vay-k with you so you have to do without them for a while.

When The Going Gets Tough

Something that has been a struggle for me lately is balancing my sorority with my classes. No I'm not failing, my grades aren't suffering terribly, however they're definitely not as high as they have been previous semesters. There is something so unsatisfying about getting B's on literally every, single assignment. It makes me feel for a lack of a better word, mediocre. However, what I know is that there's clearly no one to blame but myself.

I love my sorority so much, and it is the hardest thing to focus on classes when there's so many fun and exciting things going on within my chapter. I have been crafting non-stop; for my two perfect littles, worrying about what I need to get done for events coming up, and trying to focus my attention on running my own blog and writing for you guys on here.

I always tell people that the name of my major should be changed to the "art of bullshitting" because I would say I definitely would receive a masters in that. What I need to regain is my self-discipline, I need to force myself to go to the gym more, I need to focus more time on school, and be mindful about the time I need to allot to my sorority. But it's not easy, and it is hands-down one of the most difficult things I've ever tried to juggle in my life.

I need to try to put more effort into my school work because I don't want to settle for B's, I want the feeling of getting an A and knowing I earned it. I currently have a group project coming up for one of my classes and I'm so incredibly nervous for it because I haven't even read the book yet. [English major probs]. On top of that the past week has been so difficult for me with my Math class I'm taking which is supposed to be "so" easy but is definitely not easy for someone like me who is not so great at Math.

I guess what I'm getting at in this post is that these next few weeks will be interesting to see how everything plays out. I'm learning stuff along the way, and I'm perfectly okay with that I just don't want to see any aspect of my life suffer because of any of the rest of them. With the end of our new member class's process coming up, some projects to accomplish, I'm interested to see how everything pans out.

Decorating Your Dorm Room: Making a Comfortable Space in Your Home Away From Home

Going away to live at school is tough enough as it is, and on top of that when you’re living in a dorm that is completely bare and lifeless it’s hard to feel at home. Even though this is a temporary home for the time being, there is so much you can do to maximize the space you’re living in whether it be a dorm or an apartment, and I have a couple tricks and tips for you in order to make it cozy and comfortable; trust me you will totally forget that it’s even a dorm room!

Start off by putting tons of memorabilia and fun photos on your walls! Filling up wall space is the easiest way to get rid of any echo, and to make the room feel more personalized. I would recommend adding a string of white Christmas lights, they add an amazing soft light quality in case you’re not in the mood to turn on the actual light, and an assortment of posters and photos are the best keepsakes to have while you’re away at school! I try to minimize poking tons of holes in my walls at school so I love displaying my pictures on a piece of twine or string with clothespins to hang the pictures, it’s super cute and DIY! It looks vintage-y and adds your personal touch to the room.

Make sure your bed is an oasis for you. After long days of classes and studying sometimes you just want to relax on your bed, this means you should have one or two throw blankets to keep you warm and cozy, and pillows! I have a “husband” pillow for when I want to lay down but still be able to use my laptop or read. I recommend even having a body pillow if you’d like, to add extra comfort to your sleeping/lounging space.

Rugs Rugs Rugs! Dorm floors are usually some type of gross, cold, tile. Add a cute rug that your feet will thank you for, it ties the room together and covers up the tile on the floor so it’s nice and soft when you get up out of bed!

I love corkboards, they allow you to hang up any personal items you may have, letters, cards, photos, you name it! As the semesters go by I add whatever I collect from the semester on my boards whether they’re tickets or cards, I love being able to look back at items I’ve collected throughout the year which brings back so many memories!

Lastly, make it your own! Add some cute items that you can find at a store like HomeGoods! I have some cute mugs, organizers, jewelry holders, and some small statues that tie everything together in my room.

What’s most important about your space wherever you may be is to make it your own. You always want to be comfortable and relaxed when you’re in this space so make sure that it’s items that you like! Also, it’s better to sometimes go with a color scheme so things match and feel put together. No matter what you decide to do with your space make sure it’s a personal oasis for you!

Reasons Why You and Your Roommate(s) Are On the Same Wavelength

By now you’ve figured out if your roommate is the person you’re supposed to be rooming with, here are some reasons why you and your roommate get eachother.

  • You know exactly when the other person is going to the bathroom and all the grimy details.
  • When you and your roommate can freely talk about pooping you know it’s real.
  • Your food needs and patterns are in sync, you usually want the same kind of food as the other at the right time; Chinese? Don’t mind if I do.
  • You craft for your sorority on the ratchet floor of your room and make it into quality venting time.
  • Venting Sessions happen on the regular, and you’re almost always on the exact same page.
  • You know their relationships inside and out, you know when they’re having boyf probs.
  • You have the same hatred for the same exact people.
  • You love all the same TV shows; hello PLL date nights!
  • One of you is messy and the other is a complete neat freak [Yes my roommate currently that’s you and I’m the hot mess]
  • You have no problem bugging them when you forget your ID to get into the room or when you need food.
  • You have an insane amount of pictures with each other to start a portfolio it’s actually disgusting.
  • You’re 95% of each other’s snapchat stories.
  • You share clothes.
  • Your music moods change constantly one day is Country day the next day is Missy Elliot throwback day and you’re completely okay with it.
  • You do your laundry together like an old couple; hey Kar can I borrow a dryer sheet?
  • You support each other when it comes to eating junk food and they never let you eat it alone; go for it eat those stale doritos!
  • You’re not grossed out by each other’s clothes laying over the entire bathroom floor.
  • You text each other when you’re not together about how much you miss the other and they usually go something like…..I MISSSSSSHHHH YOUUUUUUU [insert whining emoji here]
  • You text each other even when you’re in the same room but don’t find it weird.
  • When you leave notes for each other and slip them under each other’s doors for when they wake up that are so extremely stupid but wonderful at the same time.
  • There's always one of you who ends up being the instigator and trying to get the other one to go out even when they don't want to.
  • You cannot wait to go back after time away from each other because you’ll be able to be partners in crime all over again.
